Hangin’ with the babies on a Sunday night

Been a busy week but I had some freelance money come in so I was finally able to set the kids room up and finish furnishing the house. The kids love the changes and it’s finally feeling like home over here. The process of divorce sucks but I gotta say, I love having a place to myself.

First weekend with the babies at my new house

I guess it’s a milestone although one I never thought I’d cross. My first weekend as a single dad in my new house. The kids had a blast. I hope I actually provided enough fun and it wasn’t just due to being a new place for them. Time will tell. I’m excited about being on my own again but I do miss my wife/ex-wife. Fortunately we are both still friends with each other and can talk about how it feels to be without the kids and support each other. Odd to not feel animosity towards someone you are divorcing but I guess I would rather it be this way than some other cliche way. New Year, New life.

Meat Eaters

I do feed the kids. Regular food, I mean. But Night time rolls around and they get snacky. Tonight they wer running around in underpants and Pax throws open the fridge and pulls out a pre-cooked chicken. He places his prize on the counter and he and his baby sister roll up on it like a pack of wolves..

 

I’ve never been more proud. That is, until 15 minutes later when Pax announced he was pissed that Olivia Wilde is married.

You know what buddy? I am too.

Christmas…the last Christmas

Today was the last Christmas I am having with my family as it existed. My wife of seven years and I are parting ways and I move into my new house next Friday. The kids know something is up as I have been living in the basement for the last 2 months but they don’t yet know the full scope of change coming thier way. They are very young and I’m hoping they will be able to roll with it like young kids do. I am projecting my feelings on to them and I’m hurt and sad for the coming days..but today was a wonderful day and I do love those babies so very much.

Peanut Butter and Jelly…special jelly

so my kids have this habit of being put down for bed then popping up 30 minutes later asking for snacks..usually candy…which they don’t get. So after arguing about the effects of sugar for 10 minutes they settle on Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwiches. Only tonight, I am out of Jelly. I search madly through the pantry in the hopes there is some unopened jar of jelly just waiting to be discovered in the dark recesses of the city of lost foods.

and I come up with a jar of “Mick’s Cabernet Wine Jelly”.

Yup. Made from actuall Wine…I’m sure the alcohol content is long gone but it does taste like cabernet. I watched them for a moment as they chomped on it…a slight face..a shrug and down it went.

Maybe they will sleep better tonight.
